JACKETS FROM JOHNNY PROGRAM
My son, Johnny Callan, put on the FFA jacket when he was in the 8th grade. It was more than a jacket … it was a legacy of opportunity. The FFA jacket was a gamechanger for my son. He knew what could happen for a young person if they had a chance to wear that FFA jacket. He had a dream to help others get into that iconic jacket.
The purpose of the Jackets from Johnny program is to give the gift of the legendary blue jacket to those that may not be able to afford it or allow them to earn it. This jacket carries significant value and respect. For some kids the jacket is never worn because of financial limitations beyond their control. We have made this one of our top goals in making sure as many kids that desire to wear this jacket can.
Live Like Johnny Organization (LLJ) Board Member, Aaron Alejandro describes the importance of the jacket as “The jacket levels the playing field. When you zip it up no one knows your background, social status, or popularity- they see that you belong. The legacy of the jacket doesn’t rest in the corduroy, it’s in the actions of those who take on the responsibility of wearing it.”
When you Give the Gift of Blue, you give a member the chance to wear a piece of history to experience the pride of wearing their own blue jacket.
There are 2 ways you can earn a jacket:
- Nominate a student – If there is a student that may not be able to afford a jacket you can nominate them by completing the form at https://www.livelikejohnny.com/jackets-for-johnny-application/
- Earn a jacket through a Kubota Dealership – We are honored to have collaborated with Kubota Tractor Corporation to provide deserving Texas FFA members their first FFA jacket. Just like hard working Kubota tractors … the students have to earn the jacket. Our collaboration is building the confidence of students while opening doors of opportunity. All you need to do is call your local dealership and schedule a time to recite the creed.
